Watching her youthful, yet strong visually and musically, recent video on YouTube, one might notice pop — with a dash of indie — singer, songwriter Emma Milani has a confidence and creative spirit far beyond her 14 years of age.

The song from which the video, “My Own Language,” is created will be released Mar. 9 on iTunes, Amazon and streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.

“My Own Language” was written by the young girl, who is bilingual, and has experienced a range of cultural diversity growing up in the South Bay, California beach city of Redondo Beach and spending much of her formative years with her family in Europe, particularly in her mother’s homeland of Poland.

Emma wrote the song after talking with friends about the importance of having her own language and voice, as well as being true to herself and what she’d like to accomplish in life.

“I want people to know how important music is to me and how it gives me a way to share and speak ‘My Own Language’,” she says.

In the video, the beautiful young girl is surrounded by attractive friends, laughing, having fun and frolicking in the streets of Los Angeles. She’s got short pigtails, a pink baseball jacket and stylishly torn jeans.

She’s also playfully singing into a blue raspberry lollipop.

But, the lyrics of the song are poignant, and far beyond the pop singer’s teen playful attitude: “More than what they see, there’s layers and layers to me,” she sings, and, “Why should I be afraid speaking my own language? Why you gotta go and make it complicated?”

The single, “My Own Language,” was produced by Del Oro Music Record Producer Robert Eibach.

Eibach said he took on Emma’s project because: “I saw a lot of potential in her as a recording artist.”

“As I was working with her, I noticed the maturity in her abilities,” he said, “She is only 14 and wrote a song that is relatable to a large audience. I’m looking forward to “My Own Language” being a break-through single for her.”

In addition to her singing and songwriting abilities, Emma is recognizable to many from her acting work. She’s played roles on a number of T.V. Series and has appeared on radio shows, including a recent Interview on iHeart radio.

Since she was 7 years old, Emma has studied with vocal coach Nick Cooper — known as the “vocal coach to the stars” having worked with artists from Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez to David Douchovny and Katy Perry — and Emma began about then at the prestigious School of Dance & Music in Redondo Beach, Calif.

Currently a freshman in high school, Emma plans to keep singing and writing music, as well as acting throughout her career. She also hopes to attend college someday, possibly at New York University.

Today, business leaders face an unprecedented level of scrutiny. Baron recounts and analyzes the rise and fall of one that didn’t handle that scrutiny well – Dov Charney. A Canadian who had been labeled as “genius” by a director at American Apparel, and who had also been pegged as a “brilliant leader” in a 2011 Business Insider article. 

But there were apparent contradictions, as Baron explored in some detail.

For example, Charney was eventually forced out of American Apparel in 2014, amid controversies involving a lawsuit against Woody Allen and allegations of sexual harassment, both of which apparently affected the company’s profits and viability. But as Baron also pointed out, leaders aren’t always flawless, and indeed many, if not most, have had serious flaws. As a case in point – Apple founder Steve Jobs, who was also forced out of his own company for personality-related reasons.

Baron takes the high road and digs deep for solutions as well as investigating the problems, stating that “…genius does not grant you permission to treat others as lesser beings…” and goes on to point out that leaders must not only have passion but “purpose, communication and compassion — so called ‘soft skills’ – to complement their hard skills and so-called genius.”

Is genius enough? For Dov Baron, the answer would have to be a very definitive “No.”

As Baron points out, the iconic brand American Apparel is no longer American. Canadian firm Gildan Activewear recently purchased the name and some manufacturing equipment for $88 million, but declined to buy the brand’s stores and manufacturing in the United States. It marks an ignoble ending to what was once a leading fashion staple.

And another level in the fall from grace for its founder Dov Charney.

He concludes by saying, “It’s no longer possible to use ‘genius’ as a pass for being a miserable human being. If you want to be a leader in today’s world, it is vital that you differentiate between harmless eccentricities (like Charney’s preference for Post-It notes on the wall instead of digital content) and character deficits that can, and probably will, eventually be your demise.”

Terry also expresses that self will even with good intentions is the most subtle form of pride that millions have been deceived into believing to be the way to make it through this life. Nothing, Terry say’s could be farther from the truth. The truth of the matter is that God’s spirit resides inside of us and he has done such a thing so that we may grow to know him, understand him, and trust him with our lives in his hands just as any child would do toward their loving parents so they may live protected, free, peaceful, joyful, purposeful, adventurous, and powerful lives.

Terry says nobody ever told him he could believe and trust God with his life in his hands. Once he was shown he could and realized all the remarkable things that started to happen in his life, he thought it would be a good idea to freely give what he had been given. Terry started writing a few years back and has now published 3 books with a 365 daily devotional in the works. Terry expresses with full confidence that there is absolutely no reason why anyone else can’t get the same results or better results than he has gotten. The one advantage Liberia has over most African countries is the influence from American culture.  Although the youth of most countries are influenced by the pop culture of America, Liberia was in fact a former colony of the American Colonization Society and it gained its independence in 1847. Liberia became the first independent democratic republic in Africa’s history. 

Fast forward to present day, most Liberians are starting to pay more attention to entertainment.  If it’s not an entertainment center, it is probably a record label or a film company.  Entertainment has helped Liberians to experience a different type of normalcy. After undergoing such a brutal and long civil war, music and entertainment has been one of the best coping mechanisms for Liberians all around the world. When it comes to Liberian entertainment, the name SCIENTIFIC rings a bell to most but is probably unfamiliar to some people.

Sonny Jamaal Tayshaun Tubman (born March 3 in Bong County, Liberia) who is better known by his stage name Scientific (often stylized as Lib Scientific), is a Liberian recording artist and songwriter who currently resides in Ghana. He grew up in Ghana on a Refugee Camp due to the first and second Liberian civil wars which lasted from 1989 to 2003. As a foreigner, Scientific always believed that distance wasn’t a barrier and worked harder until a guy named Cheddar, got him to sign a deal with W.O.N.D.A WORLD ENTERTAINMENT (WWE) in Ghana.  He has won multiple awards and the most notable was the recent WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards (2016 WAMVA) on December 28, 2016.

SCIENTIFIC won the BEST AFRO POP VIDEO for his video ROTATE ft. Quincy B who is a fellow Liberian artist.  Unfortunately, Quincy B was killed in a fatal car crash on March 3, 2017, which happens to be the birthday of SCIENTIFIC.  The entire nation of Liberia is still in shock about Quincy B’s death.  Funeral arrangements are be made. 

In conclusion, SCIENTIFIC has been working extremely hard over the years.  He has performed alongside big Ghanaian stars like Sarkodie, American rapper Fabolous, free-styled with Wyclef Jean among others.  Liberia loves SCIENTIFIC and eventually, the world will appreciate his talent as well.
